BABI/DDRC Training

November 30, 2022 @ 9:00 am - December 1, 2022 @ 12:00 pm

Overview

Babies Adaptive Behavior Inventory (BABI): The BABI Observation Template provides a comprehensive view of the adaptive functioning of the newborn and young infant.

Information from the observation and the structured conversation with the primary caregiver provides evaluators, service coordinators, early intervention providers and other community professionals with valuable information regarding infant adaptive function during formative early months of the infant’s life.

The BABI is based on Als (1982) synactive theory and addresses the evidence-based areas of neurodevelopmental organization necessary during the first few months after birth to lay a sound foundation for later, more typically recognized developmental milestones.

The BABI includes six foundational domains that are necessary to support high-risk infants in the organization of their physiologic and behavioral systems.  It was designed mainly for the infant born with or at risk for special health and/or developmental needs and is based on the assumption that early regulatory efforts by the newborn and young infant underlie the transition from the uterine to extrauterine environments and provides a foundation for later development.
